Founded in 2021 in Queensland, Australia, GeoTails Consulting is a specialized firm focused on tailings and waste facility design, construction, and operations. The company was established by Mr. Mohsen Moogui, a Principal Civil/Geotechnical Engineer with over 23 years of experience in mine tailings and water-retaining structures across both consultancy and owner-operator roles. GeoTails delivers comprehensive solutions across all phases of the TSF lifecycle, backed by a proven record of successful projects and a commitment to industry-leading standards.
About the Founder
Mohsen Moogui
BEng, MEng, CPEng, RPEQ)
is a Chartered Geotechnical and Civil Engineer with over 23 years of specialized experience in mine tailings facilities and water dam projects. Holding bachelor’s degree in civil engineering and master’s degree in civil engineering – hydraulic structures, Mohsen applies his strong academic foundation and practical expertise to deliver strategic, well-engineered solutions that transform complex challenges into lasting successes for clients.
Mohsen’s expertise spans all key aspects of mine waste management, including the design, construction, operation, and surveillance of tailings facilities, along with addressing environmental impacts and risk mitigation. His extensive field experience covers diverse mining sites across Australia, Papua New Guinea, Laos, India, Sri Lanka, Iran, Tajikistan, and Kenya, where he has adapted his work to a variety of seismic and climatic conditions. He is honored to have served as Engineer of Record for high-risk tailings storage facilities in Australia.
As dedicated leader, Mohsen has managed multi-disciplinary teams to deliver comprehensive geotechnical investigations, analysis, and design solutions across the full lifecycle of tailings facilities. His work also involves guiding clients through compliance with industry standards and best practices, including GISTM, ANCOLD, ICOLD, CDA, and state regulatory requirements, to ensure safety, sustainability, and operational excellence.
